1990 was a year of beginnings. It was the year our 30 Year Old began its journey in oak. Since then, it has watched the turn of the millennium and the evolution of Bladnoch into the distillery it is today.
Back then, the world was a completely different place. Photoshop had just launched, the World Wide Web was still just an idea on paper, and most of us were still using landlines. While everything outside was moving at a million miles an hour, this whisky was doing the opposite - just sitting quietly in our warehouses, slowly maturing and developing the character that it is today.
However, all good things come to an end, and we’ve now reached the "Final Sunset" of this 1990 vintage. This bottle has been a halo for Bladnoch, so it is a bittersweet moment of reflection, celebrating a whisky that has defined our craft for three decades.
This single malt whisky has been matured in Oloroso and Moscatel Sherry casks, and reveals notes of apricot turnover, Seville orange, and delicate florals. For Nick, our Master Distiller, these flavours are rooted in his own nostalgia from the 90s, specifically the smell of his mum’s baking and the memories of spending his time outdoors.
We are down to the last 150 bottles of this 1990 vintage. As Nick Savage notes, "we have to let things go to make way for what needs to come next." It is a bittersweet moment of reflection, celebrating a whisky that has defined our craft for three decades.
