An Update on The Wave Series
- 3 min reading time
Thank you for the incredibly positive response to our first Master Distillers Update in December. Whilst I’ll endeavour to share a more “routine” quarterly update, we don’t want to be bound by strict timings. Instead, I’d prefer to share updates as and when they feel meaningful, whether that’s around a new release, a distillery update, or a look behind the scenes.
So, that brings us onto today’s topic: Wave.
We’ve made the decision not to go ahead with our annual Wave Day this year, and to pause the release of Wave III until next year. This wasn’t a decision taken lightly. Wave is a series I care deeply about, and I know many of you do too.
Wave was always intended to be a long-term whisky journey for us all to go on together. A series to be discovered, experienced, and collected over time. Thanks to you, the Waterfall series was a huge success and helped us build something special. This then grew into our second series, The Wave.
With growth built into the concept, the scale of what we’re creating around the series has also expanded, from the releases themselves to Wave Day at the distillery. Giving ourselves more time allows us to do this properly and ensure it remains something truly special and sustainable for everyone.
In many ways, this feels similar to how events like Glastonbury occasionally take a year to pause and reset, allowing everything to settle, breathe, and return stronger. Or, to put it more personally, in cycling you can’t go “full gas” constantly. You need a short period to reset in order to go again and keep overall performance high and energised.
At its heart, Wave was always meant to be about exploration, quality, and taking the time to get things right. This pause allows us to stay true to those principles and ensures every future release exceeds the standards we set for ourselves.
For those who have already started collecting the series, rest assured: Wave is very much not going anywhere. We’ll return next year, and I look forward to welcoming you back to the distillery for the return of Wave Day.
Between now and when we next meet, we want to keep the Wave front and centre and build the anticipation for Wave 3, which will I can now reveal will be based on Cask & Maturation!
In the meantime, there is plenty happening behind the scenes at Bladnoch. I’ll be travelling to Germany in March to host a series of tastings and masterclasses, and it would be great to see some of you there:
– Wednesday 18th March: Masterclass Tasting in Dortmund at Hilgering
– Thursday 19th March: Magdeburg, Bottle & Pipe
– Friday 20th March: Siek / Hamburg, Weinquelle

Our Brand Ambassador, Mark, will also be in the US for the month of March. We’ll share more details about his itinerary, locations, and upcoming events later this month.
As ever, I’m grateful for your support, your patience, and your enthusiasm for Wave and for our great distillery. It’s because of our loyal and supportive community that we’re able to take this considered, long-term approach and continue building something special together.
Thank you, as always, for being part of the story.
Cheers,

Dr Nick Savage, Master Distiller
